Default No XP for me?

So there I was, happily cutting a swath of destruction through the charred countryside, when I noticed it: the '+0 XP' that would appear over my head with disturbing regularity. I'm taking this to mean I got no experience for the kill. What did I do wrong? I'm not so sadistic that I'll wander around killing stuff just to see it die... I'm all about the benjamins (or whatever president appears on XP). Am I missing something? Thanks...

You only get experience from enemies that are no more than 4(?) levels below you.

You've reached a point where you're level is so high, that these low level monsters no longer give you the xp. To get more xp, try taking on more higher level monsters

But while you may not get XP, isn't it fun tearing through legions of Charr single-handedly?

I'll do it when I'm needing a break from the pressures of the advanced stages of the game. Sometimes you even get lucky and find some decent loot.

I fail to see the distinction.

So yeah, move to a higher level area - you get more gold per kill that way too.

Odd. I haven't been powerleveling or anything, just 'find a quest, do the quest, move on'. Is it normal to outstrip monsters just through normal game progression?

You can happily ignore all monsters that don't attack you. Missions and quests are enough to go lvl up

if only doing quests then yes.

you need the missions as in the button at the bottom of the list saying

*enter mission* to advance to higher level territory.

or use the explorable territory route to get there

In the early stages of the game, yes it is quite possible to get a high enough lvl to get no XP from Charr. The real question is, what lvl are you?

6+ level difference = no XP
(At level 7 you no longer get XP from lvl 1 monsters, at level 8 you no longer get XP from lvl 2's, etc.)

Eventually all mobs you encounter are lvl 24 - 28. You'll get enough exp from them, if you manage to kill one

I'll explain the level thingy...

At level 1, you gain XP from all monsters, but any monster level 7 or higher, the XP is capped at 256. (Correct me if I'm wrong). As you move on, the XP is different. For example: At level 10, you gain XP from all monsters within 6 levels of yourself. (Level 4 = no XP & Level 16 = 256XP)

I am guessing you are level 14, and not getting XP from the level 8 Charrs, or you are level 16 and not getting XP from either regular Charr or the bosses. If you are level 14 you can kill the bosses and gain XP. If you are level 16 you are at the new "Pre-Sear Cap" I believe. However, I still see a few level 17ies here and there.

do the nolani mission for a nice workout and a chilly destination that will kill you fast and easy if you are not very careful.

I see. Off I go then, thanks for all the help. That 'Employee of the Month' plaque in the Hall of Grenth will be mine!

I think the mergoyles outside of Kryta are about 11th level. That should be a nice place for you to resume your EXP gathering. You just need to get over the mountains first. =)

Uhm, so why did I see the +0XP repeatedly yesterday while doing the Nahpui Quarter mission... where I was killing level 20 Essences? It was very odd, every other essence would say +0XP while the rest would say +12XP. (And no, I'm not level 28, though we did have a full party... which all experienced the same XP confusion).

Just a suggestion, but could you have been killing monsters that had been resurrected? You only get XP the first time you kill something. If it is then resurrected by another monster and you then kill it again, you get nothing.
